Homo Faber – shaping a more human future

Venice, a place where the presence of human creation is as tangible and authentic as anywhere else in the world. Exactly in this magical city the Homo Faber took place in September 2018. Homo Faber is the first major cultural exhibition dedicated to the best of European craftsmanship. Surrounded by splendid buildings, significant architecture and the charming narrow lanes, one gets an excellent reflection of the romantic ambience.

Design meets craft

The Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craft is an international non-profit organization based in Geneva and was founded by Franco Cologni and Johann Rupert. The purpose of the Foundation is to bring the worlds of design and craft closer together so that the future of arts and crafts is preserved. Among the team members of the foundation are personalities such as Michele de Lucci, Stefano Boeri, India Mahdavi, Judith Clark, Jean Blanchaert and Stefano Micelli. The know-how of craftsmanship is best served to the imaginary, and when the power of the hand is combined with the power of the mind, magic is revealed, and beauty is the result of this encounter.” – India Mahdavi, curator and designer.

Remarkable knowledge

A valuable compliment to the Homo Faber are the so-called Young Ambassadors by the educational initiative of the Fondazione Giorgio Cini and the Michelangelo Foundation. Those selected from 26 European educational institutions are from 15 different countries and speak a total of 20 languages. As the young ambassadors of the artists, the 100 design and craft enthusiasts are available for interactive discussions and share their impressive knowledge with the visitors. HOMO FABER offers an excellent insight into the artistic craft and shows the significance of the interplay of human creativity to result in a fusion of craftsmanship and design.

A Provence Travel Guide – Making The Moment Count

Vincent Van Gogh once said: “The entire future of art can be found in the south of France”. In 1888 Vincent van Gogh decided to move to Arles in Southern France. One of his most productive times followed – he created about 187 paintings in 18 months. The famous painter and artist sums it up excellently and provides a few good reasons for our Provence travel guide: It’s an astonishing beautiful and diverse region.

A paradise for wine lovers

As part of our Provence travel guide, we have to talk about wine: There is no doubt that Southern France is one of the largest wine-growing regions in the world, not only in terms of the quantity of wine produced, but also in terms of the quality of its wines. We especially like the Luberon, an approx. 60 km long mountain range with rocks, gorges and pretty villages – far away from mass tourism.

Approx. 65% of the production in Luberon is red wine. The wines consist of at least 60% Grenache & Syrah, often also varieties like Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault are used for the production, in addition up to 10% of the secondary varieties Counoise Noir, Piquepoul Noir, Gamay and Pinot Noir are permitted.

Robert Parker also increasingly finds positive ratings for the region, the bouquet of these wonderful drops is described as round and fruity – there are aromas of currants, blackberries or raspberries.

A Provence Travel Guide – Making The Moment Count

When you arrive in the region, you begin to understand what van Gogh so aptly described: Southern France is breathtakingly beautiful in every respect. The ideal place to capture the moment and make it eternal.

Time lingers long enough for those who want to use it. – Leonardo da Vinci

This quote gave me the idea before we left to combine our picturesque Provence travel guide with something that couldn’t fit better: the watches from Glashütte Original. After our visit in Glashütte, we were thrilled with how much passion they put into their work and today we are happy to combine these masterpieces with our Provence tour.

Domaine De Fontenille

Website http://domainedefontenille.com

In the heart of Provence, on the southern slopes of the Luberon, the Domaine de Fontenille is one of the few provincial properties that has retained its original appearance. This country house, surrounded by the foothills and mountains of the Luberon and Montagne Sainte Victoire, is characterised by its classical architecture and is situated in a landscape park protected by cedars and plane trees, surrounded by wild landscapes and vines as far as the eye can see.

Insider tip: The wine tastings are highly recommended – we bought a few bottles here right away.

A Castle Visit With The Jaguar E-Pace

Castles, coastal roads, vineyards, idyllic restaurants and tasty food: from our point of view, southern France is one of the most beautiful regions in the world. We had the great pleasure to visit the Villa Beaulieu with the Jaguar E-Pace to take a few shots with this picturesque setting.

About Villa Beaulieu

The villa, built in 1576, is not far from Aix-en-Provence, in the small town of Rognes. It is a fairytale castle, like in a picture book: long driveways with trees, fountains and a castle garden. The vineyards of Baulieu are embedded in the crater of the only volcano in Provence.

Jaguar presents the first mini SUV

With the Jaguar E-Pace, the British car manufacturer presents its first mini SUV (or compact SUV) – the little brother of the Jaguar F-Pace. The baby cat has slimmed down a little in size, but is just as harmonious and sophisticated.

The design

The pictures speak for themselves: this environment suits the Jaguar E-Pace like chalk and cheese – you immediately feel like being the lord of the castle for a few days. Although the E-Pace is a bit smaller, the silhouette resembles the F-Pace. It’s also noticeable that the same lamps are used as known from the F-Type – looks pleasing! The large radiator grille, 17 inch wheels and wide shoulders complete the sporty design.

The interior is typical Jaguar-like and was taken over almost identically by the F-Pace. The boot volume is 577 litres and can be extended up to 1,234 litres – so it had enough storage space for trip to southern France with a lot of equipment!

Don’t worry: Despite the fact, that we’re talking about a ‘compact suv’ here, the car is definitely capable to manage an extended week-end with 4 people & luggage.

Somehow cute are a few small ‘easter-eggs’, such as the baby cat walking behind its mother on the windscreen, as well as the evening lighting of the rear-view mirrors.

The performance of the Jaguar E-Pace P300 AWD

Between Lacoste and Rognes there is a small mountain range – the 2.0 litre turbo petrol version with 300 hp and 4o0 Nm torque was an absolute dream on the curvy roads of Provence! We were thrilled how harmoniously the cat goes around the corners. Especially in ‘dynamic-mode’ the E-Pace is a lot of fun! The consumption settled with us at approx. 8.0 liters / 100 km.
