Rocket on wheels – The McLaren 600LT

With the McLaren 600LT, the British manufacturer of super sports cars opens the fourth chapter of the McLaren ‘Longtail’ story. As always, McLaren’s mission is: lighter, stronger, faster and optimized aerodynamics. Anyone who has driven one or the other of the predecessor models will find it difficult to imagine how something like this can be implemented and will be surprised again and again: it is possible. @Markus Bartholet

Rocket on wheels – The McLaren 600LT

My phone rings, at the other end my colleague asks me if I have time to bring the McLaren 600LT from Zurich to Geneva and test it for 3 days. After I had thrown all my appointments overboard – because the strictly limited McLaren 600LT is not easy to get – I was looking forward to picking up the 600LT in the evening.

Extension of the McLaren Sports Series

The Mclaren 600LT is the fourth and now most extreme road legal model of the Sports Series, a few changes stand out quickly: extended front splitter, an extended rear diffuser, fixed rear wing and the extended silhouette which is 74 mm longer compared to a McLaren 570S Coupé.

Lighter, Faster & More Aerodynamic

The same 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 was installed, which now produces 600 hp and 620 NM. This shoots you within 2.9 seconds from 0-100km/h, 0-200km/h in only 8.2 seconds. The 100 Kg downforce at 250km/h ensures that it does not go directly with a rocket to the moon. @Markus Bartholet

@Nico Krättli

Race track focused driving dynamics

Optics and numbers do not deceive, the new limited model has a road permission, but was developed with a focus on the racetrack.
  • 100 kg lighter than the 570S Coupé
  • New aerodynamic carbon fiber body
  • Brake boosters ensure precise response and phenomenal braking performance: 200 km/h to a standstill in just 117 metres.

3 days on the road with the McLaren 600LT

The driving experience

Compared to the other models of the Sports Series we are talking about a harder, tighter chassis, which may require a bit more skill to tame the power. The whole thing screams for a ride over the mountain pass, e.g. 21 kg are saved with super lightweight seats, which doesn’t necessarily make the 600LT a Grand Tourer. But one thing I can assure you: it is incredibly fast. I always have the feeling to feel new records in terms of performance – maybe it’s because my competitors simply can’t offer me this level of accuracy & power. All in all the McLaren 600LT is definitely more uncompromising, more brutal and for an inexperienced rider maybe a bit scary. With the relatively cool temperatures in November, the rear end of the car can be felt from time to time – the traction control then takes you back to the track. For the autumn/winter season a lot of caution is required.

A highlight: The Top-Exit exhaust system

The 600LT can be recognized quickly by its top-exit exhaust system, which – inspired by the Senna – leads to an improvement in aerodynamic performance thanks to its unique sound. It’s especially fun in the tunnel, where you can see the flames of the tailpipes in the rearview mirror at full power – does it get any better?! @Nico Krättli

A magnet in the city

As so often with a McLaren, it is impossible to stop in town or at the gas station without talking to various fans, onlookers or owners. McLaren has announced the 600LT Spider in the last days, we can hardly wait!

The Best 5 Golf Courses On Mauritius

We’re just back from a wonderful and inspiring trip to Mauritius. It was a bit like in a picture book: endless sandy beaches, turquoise water, palm trees, fantastic hotels and great conditions for golfing. We used our time to play and rate our top 5 golf courses on Mauritius.

About Mauritius

The island is located about 1800 km east of the African continent and has with about 2000 km2 approximately the area of Luxembourg. Accordingly, Mauritius is a relatively small island, the golf courses on Mauritius can all be reached within a day trip (round trip).

Climate on Mauritius

Basically, Mauritius can be visited all year round. We were on the island from the beginning until the middle of December, it was not brooding hot but a little windy and cloudy from time to time, which from our point of view are perfect conditions for golfing. From November – April it is summer time, it is about 30 degrees hot and with 80 – 90% humidity very humid.

Kyrgyzstan Travel – Freeskiing At Supara Chunkurchak

If it comes to Kyrgyzstan travel, the ethno resort the best you can get for freeskiing in Central Asia. Spa, food, sun and snow-security and you are alone in powder up to 4.000 m above sea level. However, you need to carefully prepare equipment and the trip as up being alone means really alone. So no Rega (snow rescue service) or avalanche warnings, you need to do it yourself.

Moutain view on Supara Chunkurchak
Off the road above Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is beautiful and developed and most of the citizens have a sense of English. The resort lies up in the mountain area 30 minutes from Bishkek and delivers all the benefits within the limits of Kyrgyz tradition. Next to the ski resort Chunkurchak http://chunkurchak.kg/, about 2 km, lie several yurts on a southern slope, the upper high end ethno resort Supara Chunkurchak. Besides few houses deep in the valley, you are alone in the mountain. Hiking, horse or bicycle ride and free ski are valid options. I suggest to go for freeski which allows you to climb beyond 4.000m above sea level.

Kyrgyzstan Travel – How to get to Supara Chunkurchak?

Travelling to Bishkek from Switzerland costs around Euro 400-600. It takes about 7 hours. You either travel through Moscow or Istanbul. I prefer Turkish Airways. I recommend to travel fully equipped (inclusive airbag backpack, avalanche transceiver etc.) if you aim freeride and be aware not to go lonely. In any case, the hotel resorts people speak and are trained in English and help to fulfil any wish. Remember that they are fully equipped with horses but got no ski or bicycle equipment. I am sure that they pick you at the Bishkek airport for a decent fee and provide any service.

Impressing standard above 2000m sea level

The suites and rooms are fully equipped. Each yurt offers a very high standard to the customer. It has a huge bed, meditation and tea area, plus television and internet. However, you are not going up to this place to watch television or surfing in the internet but it is admittedly good to have. The interior design mirrors carefully picked symbols of the Kyrgyz people. Each dedicated to a different meaning.

Hall in Supara

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the wooden house. Traditional Kyrgyz Food is served in the main area build of wood. Fresh fruits and salad so that you are able to live as a vegan even though the menu is linked to the meat tradition. You get the impression of living as a tribe prince in the epic of Manas while enjoying your meal.

Manas, Shoro and Tabyldy

The cultural heritage is immense. Their national story called Manas is one of the few books qualifying as UNESCO world heritage. This Kyrgyz epic describes the unification of scattered tribes into one nation and expresses the rich tradition and historical memory of the Kyrgyz people. Relying on his forefather’s tradition allowed Tabyldy Egemberdiev to become wealthy and prosperity. Mr Egemberdiev is one of the few visionary, self-made entrepreneurs and proofs that the Kyrgyz environment worships hard work, intelligence and good ideas.

The hotel is like a tribute to this success. Having in mind that he sells the national Kyrgyz beverages: Maksym Shoro, Chalap Shoro, Jarma Shoro, and Aralash Shoro, the resort Supara Chunkurchak is a reflection of Taabaldi’s success and believe. The resort has a separate yurt for meditation purposes where you may sit and listening to the chant of a very prominent and traditional Manashi, a Manas story singer, called Zamirbek Baialiev.

Glenfiddich Grand Cru: Whisky meets champagne barrel

With the Glenfiddich Grand Cru, the traditional Scottish company is breaking new ground. This 23-year-old single malt Scotch whisky spent a second maturation phase in French cuvée barrels, which gives it an additional freshness and balance. Glenfiddich…
