Golf in Valais – Crans Montana and the surrounding golf courses

At 1500m lies one of the largest holiday destinations in the Valais: Crans Montana. The idyllic mountain village is situated on a sunny plateau, offers a wide range of activities and is the most popular destination for golf in the Valais. The Swiss village has been attracting international guests for years, especially during the OMEGA European Masters at the end of August.

No question, Crans Montana is the Swiss hotspot in golf and offers everything your heart desires. This summer we had the opportunity to relax for a few days and play the surrounding courses. If you are looking for a few rounds of golf, mountain lakes, fresh air, forests, endless hiking trails or a cosy fondue evening, Crans Montana is the place you want to visit.

The Hotel Crans Ambassador

We were accommodated in the Hotel Crans Ambassador, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hotels in Switzerland. It is so harmonious because of the attention paid to the smallest detail: a sophisticated alpine chic architecture with glass front and view to the mountains, countless fireplaces and the use of materials such as wood or natural stone make this place a unique experience.

The 5-star hotel has 56 elegantly furnished rooms and suites, a terrace with a magnificent view, a barbecue restaurant, fondue and raclette bars, a 1300 m2 wellness area and everything else your heart desires.

Crans Montana – Golfclub Crans-sur-Sierre – Severiano Ballesteros

The most beautiful and most famous course in Switzerland, because this is where the largest and most famous golf tournament in Switzerland takes place every year: the OMEGA European Masters. It is the day on which some of the best golf professionals in the world (Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy or Tommy Fleetwood) travel to Valais to compete on this course. The course is in excellent condition, although there is snow for almost half a year.

Fun fact: Sergio Garcia owns a house in Crans Montana and is a member of the club.

This beautiful 18-hole course is located just a few minutes from the city of Sion, surrounded by an extraordinary panorama of castles, terraced vineyards and the magnificent Valais Alps.

Golf course Leuk

The 18-hole course in Leuk was designed by a Scottish architect and is modelled in the style of a classic “links golf course” – which can also be found in Scotland. You will find clay soils, wavy fairways, sand bunkers and some rough.

Comment: a new club house is being built at the moment, there is a construction site at the entrance. The course was not in its best condition.

Insider tip – Golf de Noas

On the way to Crans Montana, this small 9-hole course turns out to be a great insider tip. We discovered Golf de Noas while driving past and were thrilled by the course. At first sight it is rather a pitch and putt course, although the 6 iron can be used quietly. The course is certainly not very easy to play, very well maintained and in astonishingly good condition – the view is also impressive

Golf course Verbier

This 18-hole golf course was built at an altitude of about 1600 meters, so you have a magnificent view of the mountains. The course is not in best conditions, which is probably due to the fact that it snowed until May this season.

Comment: there are some altitude meters and distances to be done, depending on fitness a buggy is recommended.
